Lanchbery Bodhrans:"I first got into making bodhrans in the early 1980s. In those days they were the non-tunable sort, unless you slapped some water (or Guinness) on them, or held them near the fire, ah, those were the days! More recently I found that I needed an adjustable drum for performing with a ceilidh band, so set about building drums again, here are the results. The robust frames are made of the finest grade birch laminate and are finished in a choice of 'natural birch' or 'slate blue'. For the tuning mechanism I use tough synthetic blocks which are both strong and light and are secured to the rim and hold the tuning screws. The tips of the screws bear down onto metal plates mounted on the tuning rim. The skins I use are either goatskin, which I buy in, or local deerskin, which I cure myself. The skins are available in thin, medium or thick, depending on your style of playing and preference " Doug Lanchbery
